A 28 year old celebrity hacker from Chicago plead guilty from hacking Apple iCloud and Gmail accounts of 300 people, this includes 30 celebrities.
Edward Majerczyk faces five years in prison, though an agreement will be sentenced in a range of six to twelve months, according to federal prosecutors.
This is the second case from Celebgate, where in 2014 a scandal in which photos of several celebrities were posted on online. Back in March, authorities announced the name Ryan Collins, a 36 year old from Pennsylvania has plead guilty of hacking 100 accounts from people including celebrities and downloading their photo and videos.
Though, prosecutors mentioned that there were no evidence that Collins or Majerczyk posted those images onine, the investigation is still on-going.
“Though the charges against both men are very similar, Collins and Majerczyk were apparently operating independently” Mrozek said.
Both person was accused of using phishing scam in order to gain the right username and password from their victims.
According to Majerczyk, he would send email using firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com, thinking that it is a legitimate website, the victim would click the link and enter their user name and password.
Majerczyk would use the victim information to gain access to their iCloud and Gmail accounts and download their photos and videos.
Prosecutors charged Majercyzk, but he will be transferred to Illinois for entering the plea and sentencing, which will happen in the coming weeks.
As for Collins, he has not yet been senteced, though the prosecutors are looking at 18 months in prison.
There were as much as 100 celebrities who have their accounts hacked by these so-called celebrity hackers, like Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst and Kate Upton, they have the massive leak of photos back in September 2014.
